Kawal S. Atwal

FOUNDER
& partner

Kawal S. Atwal completed his legal education in India and was enrolled to the Bar of Punjab and Haryana in 2013. Coming from a family of distinguished litigators and jurists, he began attending court at the age of sixteen, gaining early exposure to courtroom advocacy and strategic litigation.

Before establishing his practice in British Columbia, Kawal practiced as a private litigator before the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court of India, with a primary focus on appellate work. Over eight years, he drafted and argued hundreds of appellate matters spanning civil, criminal, constitutional, and family law providing him with extensive courtroom and appellate experience.

After relocating to Canada, Kawal completed his articles at a boutique construction and civil litigation law firm in Surrey gaining experience in civil, foreclosure and construction litigation.

In British Columbia, Kawal has built a practice dedicated to appellate advocacy in the Court of Appeal, as well as foreclosure, bankruptcy, construction, contract, civil, and family law matters. He also takes an active role in mentoring law students, sharing his experience and guiding emerging lawyers in courtroom advocacy and litigation strategy.

Benti practices primarily in family law, where she takes a client-centered approach to advocate for clients both in and out of the courtroom.

Her trauma-informed practice allows her to appreciate the complex legal and non-legal impacts that separation can have on families. Although Benti is a strong proponent of negotiation and alternative dispute resolution when appropriate, her litigation skills also help clients achieve results through the court system.

Benti represents clients across various areas, including parenting arrangements, parenting time, parental responsibilities, guardianship, child support, Section 7 expenses, spousal support, and property division. She also assists clients with separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, and cohabitation agreements.​

Harjinder Singh

With over a decade of experience in law, in India & Canada, Harjinder has built a reputation as a versatile and efficient lawyer. He focuses on family, immigration, and the full range of civil legal matters.

Harjinder graduated in law from Panjab University, Chandigarh and thereafter post-graduated in law while practicing law as an Advocate at High Court in Chandigarh (India). After moving to Canada, Harjinder earned his Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2022. Since then, he’s practicing in British Columbia and getting to know the community. He takes a practical and client-focused approach to help clients navigate the complex legal issues that come up in their lives.

Xiang Wei Wan

Wei is a dedicated and experienced civil litigator and an associate lawyer with Legalbird. Wei has represented a number of clients before the Supreme Court of British Columbia in a broad range of civil matters. Wei’s primary area of practice is general commercial litigation, including business disputes, property disputes, construction disputes, and debt-collection. Wei has extensive experience in foreclosure matters, having represented both lenders and borrowers in residential and commercial foreclosure proceedings. Wei has a growing interest in wills & estates litigation. Wei is passionate about his work and brings a straightforward, easy-to-understand approach to complex legal concepts and litigation procedures. Outside of work, Wei enjoys spending time with friends and family and exploring local cafes.

Simran Lunagariya

Simran is an associate lawyer with Legalbird, practising in civil and commercial litigation. She completed her law school in India and later obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of British Columbia, where her studies focused on corporate and commercial law. She continues to build on this academic foundation through her litigation practice.

A significant part of Simran’s current practice involves construction litigation. She works on disputes involving contractors, subcontractors, property owners, and other participants in construction projects, including matters arising from contractual obligations, payment issues, and the performance of construction work. Her broader practice includes foreclosure proceedings and contractual and other commercial disputes, where she has acted for individuals, businesses, lenders, and borrowers. Simran also has a particular interest in bankruptcy and insolvency law, an area that formed part of her graduate studies and remains of particular interest to her.

Having studied law in both India and Canada, Simran brings a broad perspective to her practice. She enjoys the strategic and problem-solving aspects of litigation and working through disputes where legal issues intersect with practical and commercial considerations.

Outside of law, Simran enjoys travelling and making time for creative and outdoor pursuits, including painting, pottery, cycling, and stargazing. Simran has enjoyed competitive pistol shooting since high school and continued with the sport through law school. She still enjoys getting back to the range whenever she gets the opportunity.

She supports the preparation of court materials, manages document discovery, provides trial support, and attends examinations for discovery and trials. Known for her exceptional communication skills, Kiran serves as a reliable point of contact while adhering to strict confidentiality and ethical standards. She brings meticulous attention to detail and a strong ability to manage complex legal documentation efficiently.
